Guitar is my favourite instrument. Learning to play guitar can be both exciting and challenging – it’s one of the most difficult instruments, physically, at beginner level. However, once the initial hurdle is overcome, it can be very rewarding. And the fact that it’s a very portable instrument makes it even more appealing. It’s no wonder that guitar is the most popular instrument to learn.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some prior musical experience, I will guide to step-by-step to becoming a proficient guitarist. Importantly, patience and consistent practice are key when learning to play guitar, or any other instrument for that matter.
Beginners will be given a basic understanding of music theory and this will be applied to the guitar. I will not only teach you what I believe are essential basics, but also teach you what you would like to learn in terms of genre and music/songs etc.
The journey starts with learning the parts of the guitar, basic chords, strumming technique and plectrum technique and applying this to simple songs. Then moving on to the more advanced plectrum techniques, finger-picking techniques, reading tablature and notation (if you so desire) and so on. One never stops learning. Playing different genres, from classical to pop, rock, blues, metal and jazz is offered should you desire to explore these styles.
